Main research directions and interests

Molecular genetics and comparative biology of molluscan stem cells

1) Cross-species genetic models to investigate the molecular basis of molluscan stem cells, such as HSCs

2) Molecular and cellular biology of important traits regarding development, growth and evolution

3) Establishment of molluscan research models (Mulinia lateralis etc.), with genome editing and transgenics as core technologies. We have systematically studied the evolution of sex-determining genes in a variety of representative dioecious scallops, analyzed the molecular mechanism of sex differentiation in aquaculture shellfish such as Patinopecten yessoensis and Argopecten irradians, and established genetic sex identification methods for various economic shellfish, as well as techniques to regulate testis development for hermaphroditic scallops.
